In “From the Initial Singularity” images of light-energy-forms symbolize the relationship of metaphysical and physical reality, their dimensions defined by a border of light-energy lines. In the painting, a light-energy-form enclosed by a red circle represents a being in process of creation. It manifests along the vertical lines representing the warp between dimensions. A red-violet line representing the flow of connection between the metaphysical and physical dimensions of reality connects the form within the circle to the metaphysical reality of the initial singularity. In realms of science, the initial singularity is a term used for the original impulse of energy that created our universe. In the painting, vibration/ sound/ voice/ music is represented by color, a glowing white form suggesting the serenity of harmonious being, a swirling, dark form suggesting the tumult of dissonance - dual energies existing within a ground of radiant blue representing the dimension of potential being. In the image, the glowing light-blue square form represents an individual spirit aligning with forces of harmony. The individual consciousness holds within itself transforming lines, shapes, and colors representing possibilities of being and existence. c 1989 18x24" Statement: A baby girl was stillborn at full term to the parents of a child then attending the school where I was teaching. Compassion inspired me to paint “To Be a Light with The One Light,” which is the actual visual representation of my experience of consciousness at the time of my first child’s birth in 1963, always remembered, and at times described in words, but never in drawing or painting. “To Be a Light with The One Light” is a hopeful vision. I painted it in pastel and gave it to the family of the baby on the cover of a large, handmade card expressing my sympathy. -M.F.L. Patton
